More than 500 retailers, sporting clubs and conservation organizations in 47 states have signed on to support its Project ChildSafe program and promote the message of “Own It? Respect It. Secure It.” to help prevent firearm accidents. The program began recruiting supporter organizations last summer to expand the reach of its safety message nationwide. Together, Project ChildSafe and its supporting organizations are reaching out to the firearm-owning community to stress the importance of proper and responsible firearm storage. Central to that program are the Project ChildSafe Firearm Safety Kits, which include a free cable-style gun lock. NSSF, which launched Project ChildSafe in 1999, provides the safety kits and locks to more than 15,000 law enforcement partner agencies across the country at no charge.
